PORT HARCOURT – The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, has commissioned a newly constructed six-classroom block at the Community Secondary School, Ilio.
The project, which was executed as a strategic constituency intervention, features modern desks, instructional whiteboards, and staff rooms. During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Amaewhule stressed that legislative interventions must complement RSUBEB's efforts to fix infrastructural deficits.
Local community leaders praised the swift execution of the project, stating that the additional classrooms will dramatically reduce overcrowding and shield pupils from poor weather.
The new block, constructed at a cost of over N250 million, includes six fully furnished classrooms, a computer laboratory, and administrative offices. The facility is designed to accommodate over 400 students.
Speaker Amaewhule emphasized that the project was born out of the pressing need to provide adequate learning spaces for the growing student population in the area. "Our children deserve better. This project is my contribution to ensuring that every child in this community has access to quality education in a conducive environment," he said.
The project was completed within eight months, demonstrating the commitment of the Speaker to delivering on his promises to his constituents.
Chairman of the Community Development Committee, Chief Emmanuel Okoro, expressed deep appreciation for the project. "This is a landmark achievement for our community. The old classrooms were in deplorable condition, and our children were suffering. Now, they can learn in comfort and dignity," he said.
The ceremony was attended by members of the state assembly, local government officials, traditional rulers, and members of the educational community.
